Lesson 10 Computer as a Tutor

C
-  In this particular lesson, I have learned that not all tutors can be a human, but a tutor can be a thing and that is computer. We are now in the modern times whereby the use of computer is rapidly arises. In just one click, there will be lots of information provided. The Computer is a tutor in this new age of learning. It does not replace the teacher, although it assumes certain roles previously assigned to teachers who now has to take the new role of facilitator and guide. Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) The computer can be a tutor in effect relieving the teacher of many activities in his personal role as a classroom tutor.

E
- Nothing can replace the role of the teacher in a classroom. Computers will just be seen as aids and not teachers themselves. One of the most important thing that we should understand is that, computers are technology tool as well as teachers' tool in the classroom. Teachers can enhance the quality of teaching with the use of computers and new technologies. Computers have bulit-in softwares and that teachers could utilize it for educational purposes.

R
-  There has been a fear that someday in the future teachers will be replaced with CAI because as an assessment, it is much better if we will used the computer to assist as in our learning for it is consistent and objective. Yes, it is partly true and also partly wrong because we all know that there are roles that teachers have to do that CAI cannot. A computer cannot assess and insure if the students have the needed knowledge and skills for it does not have any will and intellect, a teacher can decide the appropriate learning objectives while computers do not, a teachers can plan any structured activities to achieve objectives suited to the needs of its students and a teacher can evaluate the student’s achievements by ways of tests of the expected outcomes. Drill and practice software materials can be useful if we want excellence in the use of the computer. But to make it a teacher, it can’t never be. Teachers are still the best and suited way for a student to learn more, computers can only assist.

A
-   In the years ahead, we shall see the computer in schools as a common tool for the enhancement of the student’s thinking, communication and collaboration skills. Computers will become an integral component of the future classroom and not a mere machine that can deliver routine drills and exercise. But, one thing is the most important of all. We must remember that teachers will always be teachers and nothing can replace them.

Lesson 11 The Computer as the Teacher's Tool

C
-In this lesson, computer was again been tackled since this course is about technology. Computer is viewed as a teacher's tool in this lesson. In fact, it supports the constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of constructivist learning. While knowledge is constructed by the individual learner in constructivism, knowledge can also be socially constructed. This lesson is dealing on how the computer can aid or can help social constructivism. It was also included in this lesson that there are capabilities of a computer. It was said that without the computer, today's learners may still be assuming the tedious tasks of low-level information gathering, building and new knowledge packaging. Computer, as a tool can be informative, communicative, constructive, co-constructive and situating tool for teachers.
E
- Computers are eye-catchers of today’s generation. Instead of seeing it as a distraction of learning we also must see how teachers and students benefit from this tool. These computers are of big help to me. It provides information such as graphics, texts, sound etc. which helps me in my assignments and researches. It also help me visualize my understandings by making ppt presentations, etc. Certainly, these computers are tools not only to the teacher but the students as well because it can enhance and enrich their personal understandings also.
R
- We regarded computers as a hindrance of learning in some ways but now I see it as a very great help to me as a future educator. I'm using it now as a student and how much more when I'll be teaching? This, on a deeper sense will really help me in becoming a better teacher to my students.
A
- Teachers must use computers not for self-interest and desires but they should use it in a proper way. There are many uses of computers and we must appreciate it. Teachers in the next generations will not depend solely on the traditional teaching resources but they will also depend on the computers. Teachers must only remember one thing and that is not to be enslaved by the computers.

Lesson 12 Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning

C
- Student-centered learning is what a teacher should employ in teaching. In this lesson, we've seen how the teacher can expand his/her options to make him/herself more effective and relevant in the 21st millennium information age. This lesson also deals on how a student-centered classroom can be supported by information technology by spotting the difference of the traditional classroom and the student-centered classroom. By this, teachers/learners can see that technology integration in a classroom is so much needed since teachers must cater the needs of his/her students.
E
- In the traditional classroom we were just exposed on the teachers’ visual aids and it is highly teacher-centered. In this generation, what have we observed? Students are very different from each other, and by this teachers are switching from the idea of a teacher-centered classroom into a student-centered classroom. Technology is a trend and therefore students must be exposed to it. Therefore, teachers must not only teach his/her lesson with purely discussion or lecture but as well as integrating technology. Don't ever forget that students are very attractive to a colorful and graphical teaching aids.
R
- As a future teacher, I must be very sensitive to what my students need. Student-centered learning is a trend today as well as how technology trends. My students must perform hands-on activity with the computers especially that they are easily attracted to these things.
A
- Traditional learning will really have its own space in the classroom and the technology as well. Instead of focusing on one side I must really use these teaching approach appropriately. I cannot isolate my students on the traditional way of learning and I also don't want my students to be just distracted by the computer's other features. Thus, students can therefore use the computers whenever needed and not on the times that they will use it as a play.

Lesson 13 Cooperative Learning with the Computer

C
- In the previous lesson, student-centered classroom was emphasized. In connection, this lesson deals with cooperative learning. Cooperative or collaborative learning is learning by small groups of students who work together in a common learning task. By this, there are five elements needed. These are: a common goal, interdependence Interaction, individual accountability and social skills. Cooperative learning really enhances personal and social development among students of all ages. Going back to the computer, researchers have made studies on the learning interaction between the student and the computer. It has been said that computer may foster student learning in isolation that hinders the development of the student's social skills.
E
- I have experience doing a computer work with a partner. We have a common goal, and that is to make a ppt presentation for our report. By that, I can see evidently that there is really a cooperative learning among students when working with a computer. Same also when we do this to our students. Actually, there are a lot we can get out of working with a computer. If we want our students to be collaborative and cooperative we might as well let them have computer works.
R
- Cooperative and collaborative learning can foster skills and attitudes certainly on the society. School, as a home and teachers as parents should really impart something to their students. Letting the students work together would be as well healthy in learning something. As what a quote says "more heads are better than one" and so teachers will just become facilitators in the classroom and let the students do hands-on learning or the so-called experiential learning.
A
- To have a healthy learning environment the teacher must let his/her students be in groups or in pairs. Learning is very broad, learning couldn't be achieve in a snap and it is very better to have a cooperative relationships between students of the same classrooms. So teachers! This is a very big challenge to let our students explore and experience hands-on learning with the use of computers.

Lesson 14 The Software as an Educational Resource

C
- Hardwares are essentials to computer and are built-ins in the computer. However, as discussed in this lesson, that hardware can be hardly useful without the program or system that tells what the computer machine should do, this is called software. Software might be less appreciated in the traditional classroom but in this new-paced setting we can see how it boost learning. Software as an educational software is a big help not only to the teachers but as well to the students. By using these educational softwares, both students and teachers can explore the world of technology that somehow regarded as a distractor sometimes but sometimes also known to be an aid in learning. I could not forget how our instructor say these words, "the best instructional software is self-made/ personalized."
E
- There were certain applications/softwares that are games. These games might be as well enhance learning. Applications like text twists, brain games and others are very useful aids in becoming responsible students. We enjoy as well as we also learn.
R
- Instructional softwares are big help to us. I can reflect on how I might be working on my personalize IS someday. Teachers must also know how to choose appropriate instructional softwares in their subject and not just because they e
were fascinated by it. In fact, I can visualize how my teaching career be interactive and colorful when I use these instructional softwares.
A
- We are the ones responsible for our actions, therefore what we do is very familiar to us. In connection, we must create our own instructional software that is appropriate for our students and for the lesson we will be teachings. We must ensure in ourselves that we are a source of students’ knowledge, what we teach is what they will remember. Therefore, we really must consider how our instructional software could affect their learning.

Lesson 15 Understanding Hypermedia

C
- This lesson is just a review of what was introduced by Educational Technology 1 about hypermedia. The presentation information-learning activities in hypermedia is said to be sequenced in a non-linear manner, meaning that the learner may follow his path of activities thus providing an environment of learner autonomy and thinking skills. This lesson also deala with the characteristics of hypermedia applications like learner control where the learner makes his own decisions on the path, flow or events of instruction. Next could be that the learner could have a wide range of navigation routes and last is a variety of media.

E
- By using this hypermedia teachers can get the learners attention. It can also recall prior learning, can inform students of the lesson objectives, and can introduce the software and its distinctive features. It can also guide learning, provide learning feedback, assess performance and enhance retention and learning transfer. These said things were experienced by me since my teachers are letting us do powerpoint presentations and other things using hypermedia.

R
- Just imagine how lively your students and classroom when hypermedia is used. This means that as technology continues to grow, teachers should also move from traditional way of teaching to a variety of teaching strategies that could also enhance student’s way of learning and thinking.

A
- Learning is not all about pencil and paper thing, it must also be integrated with technology. I have learned many things and that I will really apply these learnings when I become a teacher. It is not easy though to get in touch with the technicalities of using computer but teachers, as a part of their profession must deal with the things that their students are highly needing.

Lesson 16 The Internet and Education

C
- Internet and Education are being engaged today. Why? Because students nowadays can easily get information from the internet. This lesson includes the introduction to internet, how is it used and a view of educational uses of the internet. Unsurprisingly, when we get an access to internet we can easily get information from different sources. Today, schools are gearing up to take advantage of internet access. Educators are finally been realizing of how much internet can help develop quality of learning. By internet we can go to other places, know their geography, can have a virtual reading partner and many other more!

E
- Imagine how we can communicate to our families living in other countries without internet. Imagine how we would know the climate when we don't have technology. Internet access helped me a lot. The assignments, requirements, sources that the teacher will let us do, depends usually on the internet. Without internet I might not be able to post this blog, without it I might not know what trends today or what the current issues are, I might not be able to communicate with my friends also, and I might not be as well get reliable sources for my reports.

R
- In a proper way of using internet we can help our students improve their works, get information, play an educational game where they will enjoy and at the same time learn. Truly, internet could suffice our needs in information. In the future teaching career it is important to understand the capabilities and special use of internet. We are using internet today, how much more in the future? It is just a matter of deciding whether we become slaves of internet or controlling our usage in it.

A
- I begin with a negative notion to internet, that it can just distract people from learning but as the time passes I have realized that it could really help teachers and students, we just have to limit and control ourselves in using it. An internet a day makes teaching and learning healthy!
